An insight into the fallout at La Liga giants Barcelona from the club’s damaging recent defeat at the hands of Girona has this week been forthcoming online.
And the info points towards Barca boss Xavi as having been less than popular behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital post-match.
The Blaugrana were of coursed condemned to the wrong side of a 4-2 result at the Estadi Montilivi in their most recent outing.
As much came despite Xavi’s troops having headed into the interval a goal to the good.
Their eventual defeat saw Barcelona tumble to third in the La Liga table, a position which will not prove enough to secure an important place in next season’s Spanish Super Cup.
In the aftermath of the Catalan derby, word quickly came to the fore that president Joan Laporta had been left nothing short of furious with his side, heard repeatedly shouting ‘this cannot be!’ in the director’s box.
The Spanish patron, however, was far from the only one…
As revealed by Diario AS, citing journalist Bernat Soler on Catalunya Ràdio, Deco, too, was heard making crystal clear his anger.
In the case of the Portuguese, though, there was a more specific target… Xavi.
It is of course common knowledge that former teammates Deco and Xavi have not always seen eye to eye, with the former having been one of those harbouring the most serious doubts when it came to confirming the Spaniard as Barcelona’s manager for next season.
The Blaugrana sporting director, in turn, let loose after the full-time whistle at the Montilivi, ranting about Xavi’s shortcomings on the touchline.
