The UFC has many superfights on the table which they could make in 2025, including Islam Makhachev vs Ilia Topuria and Dricus du Plessis vs Khamzat Chimaev, however, the biggest of them all is Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall for the undisputed UFC heavyweight title. UFC president Dana White is hellbent on making the fight happen and believes the showdown will be the biggest fight in UFC history, however, according to several sources over the last few weeks, ‘Bones’ looks to be holding the fight up.
Since he started to get non-stop questions about the Brit, Jones has basically given Aspinall zero credit for what he has done in the UFC’s heavyweight division and has even gone as far to label him a “nobody.” Despite Jones’ constant attempts to shut down the threat Aspinall poses to him, old footage has resurfaced which shows that the MMA GOAT has had his eye on the Brit for a long while.

Jon Jones Predicted Tom Aspinall’s Heavyweight Dominance a Long Time Ago
‘Bones’ singled the Brit out as a prospect to watch before he had UFC gold
Despite having branded Tom Aspinall a “nobody” prior to UFC 309, old footage has resurfaced of Jon Jones singling out the Brit as a future star of the UFC who fans should keep their eyes on. In August 2023, just over one month after Aspinall made his return to the Octagon against Marcin Tybura after suffering a nasty knee injury, ‘Bones’ said he believes that the Brit could do something “special” in the heavyweight division, which is the complete opposite of the opinion he seemingly currently has of him.
Jones said the following on the Overdogs Podcast:
“I think he (Tom Aspinall) has the potential to do something really special in the heavyweight division. I think he’s going to be hard for the majority of guys to beat, I really do believe that.”
‘Bones’ realising just how hard of a fight Aspinall is for anyone prior to even fighting for the interim UFC heavyweight title at UFC 295, could explain why he is now reportedly asking for six months of preparation to face the Brit from the moment their huge clash is officially signed and locked in. Even though Jones completely dominated the greatest heavyweight in UFC history, Stipe Miocic, in his most recent fight, Miocic was 42 years old and hadn’t fought in over three and a half years.
Miocic landed his fair share of shots on Jones and with all due respect to the heavyweight GOAT, Aspinall’s speed, power and youth will be much more of a challenge for him to deal with and could explain why he is seemingly being so hesitant about taking a fight against him.
