BFM Nice Côte d’Azur and France Bleu Azur are both reporting that an OGC Nice player is threatening to commit suicide.
The unnamed professional player stopped on the hard shoulder of the A8 motorway, which runs through the city of Nice. They are now standing on the Magnan viaduct, 100 metres above the ground and are threatening to jump. Var-Matin are reporting that the player in question is suicidal following a break-up. Firemen and police are on the scene and are currently negotiating with the player. Nice’s media activities, which were scheduled for early afternoon, have been postponed in the wake of the news, it has been confirmed.
France Bleu Azur are reporting that the player may be Alexis Beka Beka. The 22-year-old Frenchman arrived at the club from CSKA Moscow in the summer of 2022. The midfielder, who came through the ranks at Ligue 2 side SM Caen, was used sparingly last season and is yet to feature in the current campaign.
OGC Nice have now sent a psychologist to the scene and a number of OGC Nice players have attempted to contact Beka Beka’s girlfriend, who is expected to arrive at the scene in the coming minutes, according to RMC.
