Schalke have announced the signing of prospect goalkeeper Justin Heekeren (21) from Regionalliga club, Rot-Weiss Oberhausen.
Heekeren is highly rated by the newly-promoted Bundesliga side and has signed a contract keeping him in Gelsenkirchen until 2025.
It’s reported that Heekeren has cost Schalke around €200k and will become the side’s new number two with the possibility of becoming number one in a few years’ time.
If this is to be the case, it could mean that current number two goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann (33) will be watching more games out of the squad unless he decides to move elsewhere.
Schalke sporting director Rouven Schröder welcomed the signing by saying: “Despite his young age, Justin has already taken on a lot of responsibility at RWO and established himself as the clear number one in the past regional league season. now he will learn with us what it means to persist at the highest level in the long term. He will get the time he needs from us.”
