C Schalke 04 officially unveiled Jere Uronen as a new signing on Saturday morning.

After his completed medical, FC Schalke 04 introduced 28-year-old Finnish defender Jere Uronen as a new loan player on Saturday morning. As reported earlier, Schalke possess an optional purchase clause for the fullback; good both in the event that the club remains in the Bundesliga or gets relegated. Uronen becomes the second Finn to represent die Knappen in the top flight after Teemu Pukki.
“Schalke 04 is very well known in Finland,” Uronen remarked in a statement accompanying the signing, “I’m looking forward to getting to know my new teammates and especially to my first game in the arena in front of the Schalke fans.”

“Thomas Ouwejan being in the final phase of his rehabilitation means we had to have a ready alternative at the [left-fullback] position,” acting S04 sporting director Peter Knäbel added, “His [Uronen’s] signing was a top priority.”

With Jere Uronen and Thomas Ouwejan, we now have two left-backs with different playing styles,” head-coach Thomas Reis noted, “Jere is more defensively oriented and very disciplined in the back, while Thomas Ouwejan is stronger in attack. This flexibility will help us adapt to different opponents and playing systems.”
