French manager Rudi Garcia is no longer in charge of Saudi Arabian team Al-Nassr after a mutually agreed contract termination, the club has announced on its social media channels today.
The 59-year-old was hired in June of last year, and leaves the club three points off league leaders Al-Ittihad, having drawn 0-0 against Al Feiha on Sunday. He lost three games over the course of his time at the club.
According to a report from Marca, tensions between Garcia and his squad – one that, since this winter, includes Cristiano Ronaldo – is what pushed the club management to move ahead with his exit.
The former Roma, Marseille and Lyon coach first made his name as a manager by leading Lille to the domestic double in the 2010/11 season. He also led Marseille to the Europa League final in 2018, after taking Roma to successive second-place finishes in Serie A – each time behind Juventus.
