Official | Rennes deny ‘slanderous’ reports regarding Habib Beye’s request for a cut on club’s €100m player sales of Jérémy Jacquet and Kader Meïté

Stade Rennais have strongly denied reports coming out of France regarding head coach Habib Beye’s rather extraordinady financial demands as doubts surround his immediate future in the Roazhon Park dugout.

Les Rouge et Noir are in sporting disarray after shipping nine unanswered goals in their last three games, against Lorient (0-2), Monaco (4-0) and Marseille (3-0). Beye made a big call yesterday in dropping France international goalkeeper Brice Samba from today’s matchday squad as the Bretons take on second-placed RC Lens at Stade Bollaert-Delelis.

On Friday, Foot Mercato reported that Beye was ready to walk out of his job in exchange for the remainder of his wages as well, which also extends to next season. However, Beye’s job is reportedly only safe in the event of European qualification, but Rennes are currently sixth and – virtually – qualified for, at least, the Conference League. 

Furthermore, the outlet understands that Rennes have turned down Beye’s request of a cut on the club’s €100m+ player sales this winter. Les Rouge et Noir notably sanctioned Kader Meïté’s €30m exit to Al-Hilal, as well as Jérémy Jacquet’s €72m Liverpool switch. The former Newcastle United full-back reportedly believed he played a strong part in skyrocketing the value of both players.

The club has strongly denied “slanderous” reports regarding those “whimsical interests” related to Jérémy Jacquet and Kader Meïté’s transfers. “These disruption attempts are indecent and dishonest“, the statement reads.
