RC Lens defensive midfielder Jean Onana (23) has left the Artois side to sign for Turkish giants Beşiktaş, both clubs have announced. The 10-time Cameroon international bids farewell to the Sang et Or just one year after initially arriving from Bordeaux in a €4m deal. The 25-year-old midfielder featured 26 times with Lens last season. The Franck Haise-led Lens side were beaten by eventual Ligue 1 champions PSG by a single point, earning the opportunity to play next season’s Champions League group stage.

L’Equipe understands that Haise was considering deploying Onana as a centre-back in order to increase his playing time – however, the Cameroon international has rejected this option. The French publication understand that Beşiktaş and Lens struck a €5.3m deal for the signing of the defensive midfielder. The latter has committed his future with the Istanbul-based outfit on a contract set to expire in 2027. Onana is the second midfielder to part ways with the Artois side following the departure of club captain Séko Fofana to PIF-funded Saudi Arabia outfit Al-Nassr.
