Official | Jérémy Doku signs for Manchester City

Manchester City have officially announced the signing of Stade Rennais winger Jérémy Doku (21) on a five-year deal. The Ligue 1 side is set to pocket a club-record €65m from the sale of the Belgium international.

Doku successfully underwent his medical on Wednesday after landing in Manchester the day before. Les Rouge et Noir head coach Bruno Genesio alluded to Doku’s impending departure by starting him on the bench for Rennes’ away clash at Lens.

After struggling to make an impact at Rennes following his €28m move from Anderlecht three years ago, Doku has lit up his side’s right flank since the turn of the year. A dynamic winger with pace to burn and remarkable dribbling ability, the Belgium international has recently added goalscoring contributions to his impressive skillset. His decision-making has also greatly improved. Doku was lauded by Genesio for his Man of the Match performance against Metz for Rennes’ curtain-raiser 5-1 hammering of Les Grenats. The 21-year-old has registered twelve goals and ten assists in 92 games played for the Bretons.

Manchester City have identified Doku as an ideal replacement for Riyad Mahrez, who left the treble-winning side last month to join PIF-funded Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli. Doku is the third signing of the summer for Pep Guardiola’s side after midfielder Mateo Kovacic and centre-back Joško Gvardiol. The Cityzens face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Sunday afternoon in the Premier League’s third gameweek.
