Hervé Renard has been officially appointed as France’s Women’s team manager, the French FA has announced. Renard was the frontrunner for the job since last week with the French FA looking for a swift replacement for Corinne Diacre. The latter was dismissed on March 9 amid a player exodus in protest at her management, with just months to go until the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand this summer. France will face Jamaica, Brazil and Panama in the group stage.
Renard handed in his resignation from his post as Saudi Arabia’s national team head coach to the Saudi FA, who agreed to terminate his contract which was due to expire in 2027. The 54-year-old is an experienced manager on the international stage. Renard masterminded Saudi Arabia’s shock win against eventual winners Argentina in the 2022 World Cup’s group stage. The Frenchman is the only coach in history to win the AFCON with two different countries, having won it with Zambia in 2012 and with Ivory Coast in 2015.
The new Les Bleues boss has signed a one-year deal and will be presented to the media at a press conference on Friday, at which point he will also unveil his squad for France’s upcoming friendly games during the international break. France will host Colombia in Clermont on April 7 then Canada four days later in Le Mans.
