Hertha Berlin have announced the departure of Santiago Ascacibar on loan to newly-promoted Serie A side US Cremonese on a season-long loan with a reported €8m purchase option.
“Santi already reached out to us in the winter break about his wishes to take on a new challenge. The way he dug in for the club and for the team in the second half of last season following his decision is testament to his character. We have now agreed to Santi’s request and wish him all the best for the future both on and off the pitch,” said Hertha sporting director Fredi Bobic.
Since his €10m move from fellow Bundesliga Stuttgart in January 2020, Ascacibar played 52 games across all competitions for Hertha Berlin. The 25-year-old defensive-midfielder also played 74 times in all competitions for Stuttgart, after moving to Germany in 2017.
Ascacibar also has four caps for Argentina but hasn’t been in the squad since 2018.
