Stade Rennais have officially announced the signing of BSC Young Boys playmaker Fabian Rieder (21). The 21-year-old Switzerland international has put pen to paper over a five-year deal with Les Rouge et Noir. Rennes were in the market for a midfielder to compensate for the departures of Lovro Majer to Wolfsburg and the contract termination of Xeka. Considered one of Switzerland’s brightest prospects, Rieder was part of the Nati squad that took part in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and qualified for the round of 16 stage. The Swiss reportedly cost Stade Rennais a €15m transfer fee.

Rieder played his final game for BSC Young Boys on Tuesday. The Bern-based team qualified for the Champions League group stage courtesy of their 3-0 win against Maccabi Haifa. The left-footed playmaker has logged fifteen goals and 24 assists in 122 games played with BSC Young Boys. The 21-year-old will wear the #32 jersey with Rennes. “Stade Rennais has achieved great things in recent seasons and I wanted to help the club achieve its new objectives”, said Rieder. I’m looking forward to playing at Roazhon Park and meeting the supporters.” Rennes will travel to Brittany rivals Stade Brestois on Saturday for Ligue 1’s fourth matchweek.
