Olympique Lyonnais have officially confirmed the signing of Portuguese winger Diego Moreira (19) on a paid loan from Chelsea until the end of the season. The deal does not include a purchase option but Lyon will pay a loan fee of €2.8m for the 19-year-old.
L’Équipe first reported late on deadline day that the Portuguese youth international was set to complete a surprise loan switch to the Groupama Stadium. The French publication also reported that Lyon had tried moves for Almeria’s Largie Ramazani (22), Everton’s Demarai Gray (27) and Tottenham’s Bryan Gil (22) on deadline day but due to financial complications, all of these attempted moves were unsuccessful.
Moreira arrived at Stamford Bridge this summer from Benfica on a free transfer, and made his debut in the Blues’ 2-1 victory against Wimbledon in the EFL Cup on Wednesday. The Portuguese U21 international impressed for Benfica during their UEFA Youth League victory in 2022, scoring 4 goals and assisting a further 5. He made his professional debut for the Lisbon side against Paços de Ferreira.
