A leading member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has on Friday been afforded an early departure from national team duty.
The player in question? Pau Cubarsí.
Stopper Cubarsí for his part featured from the off on Thursday night, as Spain locked horns with The Netherlands in a Nations League clash.
When all was said and done, La Roja battled to a share of the spoils, in a 2-2 draw.
After pulling up with an ankle problem, Cubarsí, however, failed to even make it to half-time.
Initial reports suggested that the issue was not a serious one.
As alluded to above, however, on Friday, the 18-year-old has nevertheless been released by the Spanish Football Federation, to return to Barcelona for treatment.
As per a statement on the part of the RFEF:
‘Following tests conducted by the Royal Spanish Football Federation’s Medical Services, it has been decided that the player will return to his club, FC Barcelona, to begin his recovery from the discomfort in his right ankle, which prevented him from completing the match against the Netherlands at Rotterdam’s De Kuip stadium.’
