Official: Barcelona sign Pedro Soma

La Liga giants Barcelona have on Thursday announced a fresh addition to the club’s youth setup.

The player to have put pen to paper on terms with the Blaugrana? Pedro Soma.

For those not familiar with his name, Soma is an 18-year-old midfielder, who has spent recent seasons developing on the books of UE Cornellà.

A youth international for the United States, the starlet generally lines out in a deep-lying pivot role in the middle of the park.

His acquisition on the part of Barcelona, in turn, should not come as a major surprise.

Youngster Marc Bernal suffered a season-ending injury whilst lining out against Rayo Vallecano during the week, meaning Hansi Flick could yet be forced to look to Barca Atlètic for midfield reinforcements once more this season.

With only Pau Prim and Pedro Rodríguez available to reserve team boss Albert Sánchez, fresh blood was therefore needed ahead of the fast-approaching transfer deadline.

And, this evening, precisely that has been secured.

As per a statement across Barca Atlètic’s website and social media platforms:

‘Agreement with EU Cornellà for the incorporation of player Pedro Soma to FC Barcelona for the 2024/25 season.’

As per Sport, Soma has made the move to Catalunya’s capital on loan for the campaign, with Barcelona boasting an option to buy next summer.
