Bayer Leverkusen have announced the signing of Eliesse Ben Seghir (20) from AS Monaco for a reported €35m including bonuses. The Moroccan attacking-midfielder has penned a five-year contract until 2030.
“Eliesse is a first-class technician, full of ideas and clever in his dribbling, as well as having a precise passing game that can open things up. He’ll give our attack an extra boost,” said Simon Rolfes. “Eliesse can play wide in attack and also in central areas. He’s tough to predict and a top addition for our squad. We can look forward to his displays for Bayer 04.”
Ben Seghir added: “I’ve followed Bayer 04’s impressive path in recent years. This club always plays in Europe and won the league and cup last year. The club is seen as a poster child of German football in France and also Morocco. It’s great to be part of that now.”
The 20-year-old joins to provide competition to Ibrahim Maza and Malik Tillman, who are a trio that have been sought after to replace the void left by Florian Wirtz. Favoured on the left-side, Ben Seghir can occupy the space on the left in Erik ten Hag’s preferred 3-4-3.
Ben Seghir has scored 15 goals and provided eight assists in 85 games for AS Monaco.
