Hoffenheim have announced that the managing director of sport, Andreas Schicker, will remain at the club, after a recent power struggle in Sinsheim.
The power struggle has long been simmering, and it seemed to be leading to the demotion of the former Sturm Graz sporting director at the request of interim chairman Christoph Henssler.
However, the shareholder’s meeting where this would happen would never go ahead due to the majority owner of Hoffenheim, Dietmar Hopp, stepping in, who is a supporter of the managing director of sport, reports kicker.
Now, Schicker stays in his role in Sinsheim and Henssler has stepped down from his role.
Schicker’s impact on Hoffenheim:
While things have been going well on the pitch, off the pitch, it has been chaotic to say the least. The club can now put this most recent power struggle behind them and focus on qualifying for the Champions League.
If Schicker had been demoted, it would have prompted him to leave the club, and in turn, head coach Christian Ilzer could have followed due to the close working relationship the pair have, following their work in Austria with Sturm Graz.
