Novak Djokovic Shares True Feelings on Jannik Sinner’s Doping Ban

One of the biggest stories to come out of the sport of tennis in 2025 is Jannik Sinner’s controversial ban for doping, which was announced earlier in the year, back in February. On the 20th of August 2024, it was revealed that the Italian had tested positive for the banned substance clostebol, which the independent tribunal dealing with his case found had entered his system via massages performed by his physiotherapist, who had a history of using a product which contained the banned substance for his own hand injuries.

Although Sinner tested positive for the substance back in August of 2024, a resolution of the case wasn’t reached until six months down the line. In February, the world No.1 received a three-month suspension from the sport. However, several high-profile players publicly expressed their frustration with his punishment, as they felt it was favorable, due to him not missing any Grand Slams in the process.

One of the high-profile players to voice their frustrations at the time was Novak Djokovic, who has always been outspoken, and the Serbian has once again spoken about Sinner’s ban. During a newly released interview with Piers Morgan, Djokovic questioned the process behind the Italian’s ban and even went as far as to call it “preferable treatment.”

Although the tennis world has pretty much moved on from the topic of Jannik Sinner’s doping ban, which took place earlier this year, Novak Djokovic is still clearly very frustrated with how the whole situation played out. During a newly released interview with Piers Morgan, the Serbian once again expressed his frustration with Sinner’s ban and the fact that he didn’t miss any Grand Slam tournaments due to it.

As well as speaking about the ban itself, Djokovic also called out “preferable treatment” being given to Sinner, which other players don’t receive.

After calling out a “lack of transparency” around the situation, Djokovic then went on to claim that he, as well as other tennis players, both male and female, felt that Sinner was obviously being given “preferable treatment” which others don’t get.

Although Djokovic claims he believes that Sinner, who is a regular practice partner, “didn’t do it on purpose,” he is certainly still holding a grudge over the situation and how it was handled.
