Borussia Dortmund suffered their fourth consecutive defeat to start 2025 after conceding two goals in as many minutes against Bologna in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
It was another underwhelming performance that leaves Nuri Sahin’s job in the balance with just one win in their last nine games across all competitions.
Sammer, an advisor at Dortmund, was a pundit on Amazon Prime DE and in his post-match comments, he didn’t hold back.
“The team can’t defence, but they can’t attack either,” said Sammer, who added that there is “no clear structure in the team.” It was Bologna’s first win in this season’s Champions League and Sammer doesn’t believe Dortmund lost “because of a superior team.”
Sammer also suggested that “the team is physically and mentally out of shape.”
With Borussia Dortmund’s next game against Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga, there are question marks as to whether Sahin will be in the dugout. Reports this week have suggested that the game against Bologna was for Sahin’s future and there’s already a list of candidates that has been compiled to replace the former-BVB player.
