Borussia Dortmund has announced that central defender Nico Schlotterbeck will miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury.
Schlotterbeck was absent from Dortmund’s 4-1 win against former club SC Freiburg at the weekend. The reason for his absence has now been revealed, and the defender has torn his meniscus. The 25-year-old will be out for Dortmund for the rest of the season, and whether he will be fit to play in the Club World Cup and Nations League for Germany is doubtful.
In his absence, Emre Can, Waldemar Anton, Niklas Süle and Ramy Bensebaini can all play as centre-backs.
Dortmund’s issue is that they will now miss a key part of their defence heading into a crucial part of the season where they will play Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals as well as Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga next weekend as they look to qualify for Europe next season.
