Bild reports that Bourssia Mönchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi is now looking to extend his contract at the club after coming close to leaving in the summer.
Elvedi’s current contract expires in 2024 but is now beginning negotiations over extending his current deal. However, it is likely that Elvedi will not be committed to the club for long as it is likely that the 26-year-old will extend his contract by at least one year but the new deal will include a release clause worth €10m.
The Swiss international had sat out the majority of Gladbach’s opening games of the season as he was trying to facilitate a move to Wolves in the Premier League but the departure of Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui meant the interest from the Premier League side cooled and no move materialised.
Once he returns from the international break, talks over a new contract will resume and it is likely that Elvedi will also find himself in a new position as it is reported that Gerardo Seoane will look to use the 26-year-old as a right-back to create competition for Joe Scally who has failed to perform for a while.
