Former Real Madrid star Toni Kroos has on Wednesday evening forwarded a humorous message to the club’s current crop of stars.
This comes after the German international was afforded a place on the shortlist for the upcoming Ballon d’Or.
Though he has since called time on his legendary career, Kroos’ brilliance over the course of the last year was today recognised, by way of a nomination for the 2024 ‘Golden Ball’.
The 34-year-old, in hopes of securing the award, will be forced to beat out competition from a host of current members of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, though.
This comes with all of Dani Carvajal, Antonio Rüdiger, Federico Valverde, Jude Bellingham, Vinícius Jr. and Kylian Mbappé in the running to be crowned world football’s best player, too.
Kroos, in turn, has tonight taken to social media, to send a lighthearted plea to his former teammates.
Reposting a photo of he and the rest of Real Madrid’s Ballon d’Or candidates, the midfield maestro added the caption:
‘Come on. You 6 can do it next year’
