Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali ahead of Milan clash: “Who knows if my dad will support me or Milan”

Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali has revealed that he doesn’t know if his father will support the Magpies or Milan in the Champions League clash later today.

Tonali is a boyhood Milan fan and during the last few days at Brescia, he rejected the chance to join Inter and joined Milan even though he was earning less wages. He joined Newcastle recently in a big-money which took off quite quickly in a matter of days.

Tonali returns to the San Siro today and he is expected to get a warm welcome from Milan fans, who still have a lot of respect for the Italian.

The midfielder spoke to Corriere della Sera today and stated: “My dad will also be there today. Who knows if my dad will support me at least tonight or will continue to be a Milan fan.”

Tonali revealed that when the Champions League draw took place, he had this feeling that Newcastle could end up in the same group as Milan.

“On the day of the draw we attended the ceremony with the families. Newcastle hadn’t been to the Champions League for 20 years, my teammates deserved this satisfaction. I had a bit of a feeling that we would end up in Milan’s group.”

The 23-year-old also spoke about whether the decision to leave Milan was completely his or not and he stated: “It is difficult in today’s football for a player alone to ask for a transfer to a specific team or decide which club to go to.”

Tonali was a vital player in Milan’s march to the Scudetto in 2022 and scored some vital goals towards the end of the season for the club, for whom he played 130 times and scored seven goals.
