There is an increasing likelihood that Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali could be handed a ten-month long ban for his involvement in the illegal betting scandal.
Tonali has confessed to betting illegally on football matches and he has admitted that he bet on Milan matches during his time at the club. While he did play for Newcastle United against Crystal Palace this past weekend, it is likely to have been his last game of the season.
Giovanni Albanese has reported that Tonali, after a meeting with the Prosecutor yesterday, has reached a plea deal regarding his suspension. He is likely to receive a ten-month long ban plus rehabilitation. The ban is three months longer than what Nicolo Fagioli received and that is likely to have been the case because Tonali directly bet on Rossoneri games.
Tonali’s name first emerged during investigations when Fagioli was questioned thoroughly and the midfielder later revealed that the Newcastle man initially introduced him to illegal betting during an Italy Under-21s camp.
