Newcastle United Transfer Rumours Reviewed For This Summer

Newcastle United managed to finish strong at 11th place in the Premier League this season, despite not being able to buy a win in the first half of the campaign. The ownership change last year opened up opportunities for Eddie Howe in the January transfer window after which we witnessed the addition of new faces at St. James Park.

The arrival of Kieran Trippier, Bruno Guimaraes, Dan Burn and Chris Wood in January aided the Magpies in getting themselves out of the dreaded relegation zone and finishing strong. The fans are in the hopes of further investment, given the ambition of the Saudi Arabian backed ownership group.

Eddie Howe is keen on adding depth to the squad and making necessary changes to help them climb up the table in the Premier League. The problem areas where they need to focus remain evident throughout the second -half of the campaign. Over the past few months, they have been linked to several players in the hopes of getting them aboard. A recent report from Sky Sports has summarised their transfer rumours.

Forwards

The Magpies are in dire need of a striker with Chris Wood struggling to score in the final third. Newcastle are reportedly closing in on Reims striker Hugo Ekitike, one of the many strikers being linked to the Magpies. The others include Victor Osimhen and Yannick Carrasco. They need a more experienced forward in the striking position for them to resolve their goal-scoring concerns ahead of the next season and thus seem to be targeting valubale players.

Midfield

Joelinton’s versatility has provided them with cover in the central areas of the pitch but it is very logical of Howe to bring in reinforcements in the midfield area. In the hopes of doing that, Howe has identified Fabian Ruiz, Moussa Diaby and Lucas Paqueta as potential targets this summer. A quality midfielder is of utmost priority as that will allow Joelinton to play in his preferred position.

Defence

If they fail to sign Matt Target permanently then a new left-back would be required to fill in. Nathan Ake, William Saliba and Sven Botman are the few being linked to a move to Newcastle as Howe looks to add more depth to the backline. Nathan Ake could be a brilliant replacement for Matt Target in the left-back position.

Goal Keeper

A shot-stopper is of paramount importance in their run for European Silverware as Martin Dubravka has only been decent this season. Replacing him would be logical for Eddie Howe, however, the Magpies are yet to identify a decent replacement for the Slovakian shot-stopper despite being linked with Dean Henderson and Sam Johnstone. They still remain in search of a goalkeeper who could consistently perform at a high level.
