Newcastle United are plotting a summer transfer splash with Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin and West Ham United’s Jarrod Bowen high on their shortlist, according to the Telegraph.
The Magpies are aware of the challenges in landing both players. They will need to stump up substantial fees, which means they must sell some players on their books.
Newcastle are after a right-winger to replace Miguel Almiron, who bagged only three goals in 33 Premier League appearances this term.
They have identified Bowen – who netted 20 goals this season for West Ham – as the perfect replacement.
Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise remains an option, but competition from Manchester United makes that move uncertain.
Newcastle were previously rebuffed by West Ham when they enquired about Bowen.
However, with David Moyes leaving and the arrival of Julen Lopetegui, the England international may be receptive to a move.
Bowen reportedly favoured a move to Tyneside when leaving Hull City four years ago.
However, a deal fell through due to the financial constraints under Mike Ashley.
Calvert-Lewin is seen as a direct replacement for Callum Wilson, who is expected to depart with Saudi Arabian clubs interested.
Newcastle are also planning to add a new top goalkeeper to compete with Nick Pope and have been linked with a move for Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale.
David Raya has taken Ramsdale’s number-one position. He is keen on finding a new spot where he can play consistently.
Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is also a target for the Tyneside club.
