Newcastle United have joined the race to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Randal Kolo Muani.
That’s according to a recent report from Tutto Mercato Web, who claims the Magpies sent scouts to watch the young France international in action during Frankfurt’s final Bundesliga game against SC Freiburg on Saturday.
Kolo Muani, 22, is expected to depart Frankfurt this summer with a number of clubs believed to be chasing his signature including Bayern Munich and Manchester United.
However, with his valuation reported to be around the £100m mark, whichever club seriously pursues the 22-year-old will know they’ll need deep pockets.
And that’s where Newcastle come in – following their qualification into next season’s Champions League, the Magpies, led by Eddie Howe, will be on the lookout for some top-quality players to add to their relatively thin squad.
Kolo Muani, being one of Europe’s most highly-rated players, fits the club’s bill, and should their Saudi-backed owners give the deal the green light, it’ll be interesting to see just how much value Frankfurt can extract from the sport’s richest club.
