Newcastle United are ‘really intrigued’ by the possibility of signing Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech this month, transfer insider Dean Jones has informed GIVEMESPORT.
The Magpies have had just one arrival in the January transfer window so far, with youngster Garang Kuol coming in from Central Coast Mariners before being loaned out to Heart of Midlothian.
Newcastle Transfer News – Hakim Ziyech
The Telegraph has recently reported that Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has drawn up a nine-man wishlist of potential January targets, with multiple Chelsea players said to be in his thoughts.
Ziyech has been touted as a player of interest, finding himself out of favour at Stamford Bridge under Chelsea boss Graham Potter. Blues’ duo Conor Gallagher and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have also been linked with a switch to St James’s as they undergo something of a squad reshuffle in the January window.
Everton forward Anthony Gordon is also someone who has attracted interest from the North East according to The Daily Mail, with Champions League qualification becoming an ever-increasing possibility for the club given their consistent Premier League performances.
Signed for Chelsea from Ajax for £39m according to The Guardian back in 2020, it could finally be time for Morocco international Ziyech to embark on a new venture.
What has Dean Jones said about Hakim Ziyech?
Transfer insider Jones has said that out of all the players Newcastle has been linked with this month, Ziyech is the one he is taking ‘most seriously’ at this minute in time.
Jones told GMS: “I think Hakim Ziyech is the one to take most seriously at this stage. Newcastle are really intrigued by the possibilities he could bring to them; he’s obviously available, he’s ready for a new challenge.“
Would Ziyech be a good signing for Newcastle?
Capable of playing on the right flank or in the central areas, Ziyech is a versatile presence that would add additional flair and creativity to a Newcastle side that has enjoyed a fantastic campaign up to now.
Being used this term sporadically, the 29-year-old has made 14 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea, registering one assist against Crystal Palace in a 1-0 triumph, as per Transfermarkt.
St James’ Park however could be the perfect environment to reignite his fortunes. Confidence is high at Newcastle, while the thought of Ziyech playing alongside the likes of Miguel Almiron, Allan Saint-Maximin and Alexander Isak is an exciting prospect.
Good times lie in waiting for the Magpies this campaign, especially if they can seal a dream return to the Champions League for the first time since 2003 by securing a top-four spot.
