Newcastle United will likely move for Leicester City attacking midfielder James Maddison again in the January transfer window, according to journalist Dean Jones.
The Magpies splashed more than £120 million on new signings in the summer but Eddie Howe could be ready to add more big names to his growing squad.
What is the latest on Maddison?
Newcastle pushed hard as they looked to sign the 25-year-old from Leicester following the end of last season.
According to The Guardian, the Magpies saw multiple bids for Maddison rejected by the Foxes, with the largest reaching £50 million.
However, Newcastle refused to match Leicester’s £60 million valuation before the September 1 deadline, leaving the one-cap England international where he was.
But the North East giants are not giving up just yet with Football Insider reporting that they plan to submit another offer during the January window.
The outlet states that Newcastle believe the attacker’s price will have dropped in the months since their last offer.
What has Jones said on the situation?
Jones says it would be a huge surprise if Newcastle did not move for Maddison again at the turn of the year.
The transfer insider adds that the quality he would bring to Howe’s side is obvious.
Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I’d be amazed if Newcastle didn’t make a move for him to be honest. We know that they considered him strongly in the last window and you can see what he would bring to the creative side of things.”

How has Maddison performed this season?
Leicester may be languishing in the relegation zone after eight matches but that does not mean their star man has not been performing.
Maddison has already contributed five goals and two assists in seven appearances this term, meaning he has had a hand in half of the Foxes’ top-flight goals.
A stellar performance against Nottingham Forest on Monday night also helped his side off the foot of the table as they thrashed their local rivals 4-0.
Maddison opened the scoring with a deflected effort before burying a stunning free-kick after Harvey Barnes had doubled their advantage. In the second half, he also provided the pin-point pass that allowed Patson Daka to make it four.
It is easy to see why Maddison is so highly coveted by Newcastle ahead of the January transfer window.
