Newcastle have been ‘looking’ at ‘fantastic’ £87m star at St James’ Park

Newcastle United could bring Shakhtar Donetsk’s Mykhaylo Mudryk to the club “at some stage”, according to journalist Keith Downie.

The winger is subject to plenty of interest from abroad, due to impressive form since making his breakthrough in the Ukrainian Premier League last season.

What is the latest news involving Mudryk?

Mudryk has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in recent times, and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has stated that he is a player that the Gunners are “following” and that they “really appreciate”, having gone in for him in the summer.

However, the Newcastle hierarchy are not content with letting the 21-year-old make a switch to north London, and Football Insider report that the PIF have given the green light to lay the groundwork for a deal to bring him to St. James’ Park.

The deal they are preparing is rumoured to be worth around £50m, and it could be boosted by the fact that Shakhtar Donetsk have failed to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The Athletic revealed that the Ukrainian side want £87m for their prized asset, so there may be some negotiating that has to be done before a deal is concluded.

What has Downie said about Mudryk?

Downie believes that Mudryk could complete a switch to St. James’ Park at some stage, although he admits that they will have to fight off interest from some big sides, telling GIVEMESPORT: “That’s one that you could see potentially happening at some stage, but there’s going to be some of Europe’s top clubs looking at him as well, so it won’t be easy.

How would Mudryk improve Newcastle?

Hailed for his “fantastic” finishing ability by journalist Josh Bunting, the Newcastle target has flourished since finding a regular place in the Shakhtar team last season, and he has scored from the wing nine times in 17 outings this term.

Three of these goals came in the Champions League, highlighting that despite his tender years, the youngster is already performing at a very high level, and would be able to slot right into Eddie Howe’s frontline.

Alan Shearer celebrating scoring

Premier League and Newcastle United all-time top goalscorer Alan Shearer is a true legend of the game, but when did he leave their club?

Joelinton has featured on 13 occasions in the Premier League this season, and the 26-year-old has registered just one goal and one assist, so Mudryk would offer far more to the Magpies in terms of attacking contributions.

The forward’s ability to bring his teammates into play cannot be understated, already on a tally of eight assists this term, and he would be a fantastic provider for striker Callum Wilson.
