Newcastle United are confident that they can sign Sven Botman, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.
European giants AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain are also thought to be keen on his signature, but Crook says the Magpies are now starting to really fancy their chances in this transfer tussle for the Lille defender.
What is the latest news involving Botman?
90min recently reported that PSG have entered the race to sign Botman this summer.
According to them, the French side have made contact with Lille over a deal after talks with Milan stalled, though they state that Newcastle are also still firmly in the frame.
In terms of how much he could cost, The Telegraph‘s Luke Edwards has said any deal is likely to be worth around £30m.
Botman is a long-term target for Newcastle, with the Premier League outfit having tried to sign him back in January, so they will be desperate to get this one over the line.

What has Crook said about Botman to Newcastle?
Crook has told GIVEMESPORT that there is a growing confidence at Newcastle that they can land Botman this summer.
Speaking to GMS, the talkSPORT reporter said: “There’s confidence from Newcastle they can sign him. He’s a left-footed central defender, which is what Eddie Howe is looking for, so I think as we sit here now, Newcastle are probably the favourites.”
Would Botman really choose Newcastle over PSG?
It seems that he could, and it is not as far-fetched as it sounds.
Yes, of course, PSG are the best team in Ligue 1 and will be competing in the Champions League when the new season arrives. However, would the 22-year-old start in a team already possessing Marquinhos and Presnel Kimpembe?
Botman has also been in France for a couple of years now and has won the French league title in that time, so perhaps he might fancy a new challenge and doing something different. Wherever he ends up, that club will be getting a very good defender.
“If you analyse his performances this year, especially against the top teams we’ve played, you can be sure he can play at the highest level,” Jose Fonte told talkSPORT last February when discussing his Lille team-mate.
“He just needs to keep going, keep improving, keep adding experience to his arsenal and I’m sure he’ll have a great career.”
It will now be interesting to see which club Botman chooses in his bid to achieve the great career Fonte has predicted him to have.
