The Serie A encounter between Juventus and Salernitana witnessed VAR making another mistake after a flurry of alleged wrongdoings over the recent weeks.
Juventus welcomed Salernitana in the sixth round of fixtures in the Serie A 2022/23 season. Despite the home side starting the match with greater intensity, Salernitana drew the first blood, thanks to a controversial goal from Antonio Candreva. Krzysztof Piątek’s successful penalty conversion saw the visitors finish the opening half with a 2-0 lead.
In the second half, Juve came back roaring into the equation, with Gleison Bremer scoring a thumping header off Filip Kostić’s cross. Alex Sandro got fouled inside the box, earning the Old Lady a penalty. While Luigi Sepe saved the initial attempt from Bonucci, the defender latched onto the rebound to poke it into the goal, securing the equaliser for the home team.
Just before the final whistle, a cross flew into the box on Juve’s end. Arkadiusz Milik met the end of the delivery to guide it toward the goal. Bonucci, who supposedly got the last touch on the ball before it went into the net, was ruled offside by VAR. As a result, the goal got chalked off. But that should not have been the case, as revealed by the fresh evidence.

After the game, Sky Italia’s images disclosed that Bonucci was not in an offside position as Candreva was playing him and the whole Juventus line onside.
Thus, it would not be wrong to claim that VAR made another horrendous mistake that cost Juventus a win and two points against Salernitana.
Meanwhile, Milik, following the goal celebration, received the second yellow of the night for taking off his jersey. Now, he will be missing Juve’s trip to Monza next weekend. Max Allegri and Juan Cuadrado will also be unavailable for the Monza game as they were shown the red card following a scuffle in the aftermath of the VAR decision.
