Florian Neuhaus has slipped down the pecking order at Borussia Mönchengladbach this season, playing just 156 minutes in seven games in all competitions.
With Rocco Reitz, Julian Weigl and Philipp Sander all ahead of him in the central midfield pecking order, the 27-year-old could make a move this month in search of more game time.
According to Bild, VfL Bochum coach Dieter Hecking, who knows Neuhaus from their time together at Gladbach, is trying to sign the midfielder.
However, Neuhaus’ €4.5 million-a-year salary could prove a stumbling block to a loan deal.
Bochum have also been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund youngster Kjell Wätjen, with the Bundesliga side seemingly keen to strengthen in central midfield during the winter transfer window.
