Napoli make initial contact for Evan Ferguson

Napoli have identified Evan Ferguson as a primary target to bolster Antonio Conte’s attack, with the club already making initial contact with the player’s entourage.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Partenopei are closely monitoring the Irish international’s situation as they prepare for the potential departure of Lorenzo Lucca, who has attracted interest from the likes of Benfica and Nottingham Forest.

Notably, any move for the 21-year-old is complicated by his current status, as he is presently on a season-long loan at Roma from Brighton & Hove Albion. For a transfer to Naples to materialize this month, Roma would first have to agree to an early termination of the loan agreement—a scenario that is becoming increasingly plausible as the Giallorossi look to overhaul their own forward line with targets like Joshua Zirkzee and Giacomo Raspadori. Furthermore, Brighton would need to sanction the redirecting of the striker to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Indeed, the interest from Napoli represents a significant turn in Ferguson’s Italian adventure. Despite a difficult start under Gian Piero Gasperini marked by fitness issues and a goal drought, the striker recently showed signs of life with a brace in the Europa League and his first home goal at the Olimpico. However, with Roma actively pushing for new high-profile attackers, the space for the Brighton-owned man is shrinking, potentially opening the door for Napoli to pounce.

Consequently, the operation remains tied to the domino effect of the winter window. If Lucca secures an exit and Roma finalize their incoming moves, Ferguson could see his loan terminated to facilitate a fresh start under Conte. For now, the Partenopei have laid the groundwork with the player’s representatives to ensure they are at the front of the queue should the situation unlock.
