Serie A side Napoli played their second Champions League game on Tuesday but it ended in disappointment, as Villarreal picked up a convincing 3-1 win. But the game wasn’t without a major flashpoint involving manager Max Allegri and Kevin De Bruyne.
La Gazzetta dello Sport – via TMW, offer details into what really went down between the two.
During the game, Allegri had been vocal about having De Bruyne stay deeper in midfield, to make sure Scott McTominay had more room to maraud forward into attack.
But instead of adhering to this, De Bruyne kept marching forward instead and defied Allegri’s instructions. In fact, the Belgian pretended not to hear and tried to push his teammates forward too.
Napoli have returned to Italy already after the disastrous game, as Allegri took some time to talk about the result. But he is expected to have a showdown discussion with De Bruyne about what went down, as they look to avoid a scandal.
