Julian Nagelsmann is calling on Hansi Flick to communicate openly with Marc-André ter Stegen about what lies ahead at FC Barcelona.
Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has called on his predecessor and current Barcelona boss Hansi Flick to provide clarity on Marc-André ter Stegen’s future at the club.
“Given the history between the two of them, I hope Marc gets some information on how things will develop. That’s my wish for him,” Nagelsmann said after Germany’s 2-0 defeat to France on Sunday.
Reports in Spain have suggested that Barcelona are open to selling their long-time No. 1, with Espanyol’s Joan García named as a potential replacement.
Ter Stegen is reportedly frustrated with Flick and Barça sporting director Deco due to a lack of communication about his situation, and Nagelsmann believes the uncertainty is weighing on the 33-year-old.
“It’s hard for me to judge because I only know what I read in the media. I don’t know how much truth there is to it,” said Nagelsmann.
“But I do believe – and it’s only human – that it’s on his mind.”
Despite the current uncertainty, Nagelsmann sees no reason for concern over ter Stegen’s future.
“He doesn’t need to worry too much about his sporting future, wherever that may be,” the Germany coach said.
“I thought Marc played very, very well today. He made some excellent saves.”
