Julian Nagelsmann has explained his decision to give Angelo Stiller his first call-up to the Germany squad.
Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann made few changes to his squad for the UEFA Nations League matches against Hungary and the Netherlands in September.
The only new name in the squad is VfB Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller, who Nagelsmann hopes can help fill the void left by the international retirements of veterans Ilkay Gündogan and Toni Kroos.
“Angelo Stiller, who played very well for Stuttgart last season and again now, is the only new player in the squad. In midfield, we have to replace two players who have retired, Ilkay Gündogan and Toni Kroos. That’s enough changes in the national team for now,” said Julian Nagelsmann.
“Overall, we were very happy with the way every single player fulfilled his role at the European Championship. That’s why we now want to give the European Championship squad the chance to prove themselves in the first games after the tournament,” added the Germany coach.
