Edin Džeko scored on his 2. Bundesliga debut to help Schalke into a comeback draw against Kaiserslautern. The soon-to-be-40-year-old is now the oldest goalscorer in the history of 2. Bundesliga.
“Edin (Džeko) brings us back into the game with that classic Edin moment,” said his coach. “He brings the whole stadium back. He’s a striker who can hold onto the ball and assert himself. These are things we’ve been missing for the last seven months. We now have that with Edin.”
Muslic planned to only bring on the 2009/10 Bundesliga top-scorer for the last 15 minutes, but he had to make that decision a bit earlier after Kaiserslautern’s opener.
Džeko’s goal reduced the deficit after fellow substitute Ivan Prtajin scored twice for the visitors. Schalke’s captain Kenan Karaman scored the equalizer in the 90th minute, three minutes after Džeko’s record-breaking strike.
