Paul Wanner, who is currently on loan at Heidenheim from Bayern Munich, made headlines when he turned down a call-up to the German national team this month.
Explaining his decision, Wanner, who is also eligible to play for Austria, said that he doesn’t want to make a final decision on his international future now, but rather concentrate on continuing his development.
Jamal Musiala was in a similar situation a years ago and ultimately opted to play for Germany rather than England.
When asked if he has any advice for Wanner, Musiala told reporters at a press conference on Tuesday:
“I think it’s just important for Paul to take his time. Not to look too much at what the media are telling him to do.
“Instead he should think for himself, talk to his family, reflect and make his decision.
“We would love to have him here! I’ve known him for a while. He is a good player and continues to improve. But it’s a decision he has to make for himself.”
For now, Wanner wants to play for Germany’s Under-21 side, who face Denmark and France this month.
