Müller speaks out on Flick sacking

Thomas Müller thanked Hansi Flick for his work as Germany coach after the 2-1 win over France last night.

In their first match since Hansi Flick was sacked as head coach, Germany returned to winning ways with an impressive 2-1 win over France in Dortmund on Tuesday night.

Led by the trio of Rudi Völler, Hannes Wolf and Sandro Wagner, the Germans ended a five-match winless streak, with Thomas Muller and Leroy Sané getting on the scoresheet before Antoine Griezmann pulled one back for the visitors.

In a post-match interview, Muller thanked Flick for his work and shared his thoughts on the match, which he described as a “small emotional relief”.

“First of all I would like to thank Hansi and his coaching staff. It hasn’t been easy for us to endure this run of bad luck, for which we are partly responsible,” said Muller.

“But at the same time I have to compliment Rudi, Hannes Wolf and Sandro Wagner for the way they handled the whole thing in such a short time.

“In the end, we implemented it well on the pitch today, were diligent and rewarded ourselves at the right moments. We still have a long way to go, but today was a small emotional relief.”
