Morgan Rogers agrees long-term Aston Villa contract extension

Aston Villa have reached an agreement with Morgan Rogers over a new long-term contract, delivering a major boost to the club’s ambitions.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder, who was already tied to Villa Park until 2030, is set to extend his stay by another year, keeping him under contract until 2031.

The new deal also includes a significant pay rise that will make him one of the club’s highest earners.

Villa’s decision reflects Rogers’ rapid rise since joining from Middlesbrough in February 2024. His performances have turned him into a cornerstone of Unai Emery’s team and a regular for England under Thomas Tuchel.

The club were keen to reward his development and fend off interest from several top sides, including Chelsea, who had been monitoring his situation closely.

By reaching an agreement now, Villa have effectively ended speculation about a potential 2026 transfer.

Talks between Villa’s director of football operations, Damian Vidagany, and Rogers’ agent, Sam Kohansal, had been ongoing for weeks. Their strong working relationship ensured the process ended smoothly, marking Rogers’ third contract renewal in less than two years.

Rogers has developed a strong connection with Emery, whose trust has been central to his improvement. The Spaniard has made him a key figure in a side that continues to challenge for European qualification despite an inconsistent campaign.

The midfielder’s new salary is seen as recognition of his maturity, creativity, and growing leadership within the dressing room. His influence has been particularly evident in Villa’s attacking transitions, where his versatility and composure have become indispensable.

Although there had been reports of a potential release clause exceeding €100 million, sources close to the deal suggest no such provision will be included. Villa instead hope that the new terms reinforce Rogers’ long-term commitment to Emery’s project.

For a club looking to retain its core talent amid rising interest from Premier League rivals, securing Rogers’ future represents an important statement of intent.

He is expected to officially sign the new deal in the coming days, reaffirming his role as one of Villa’s central figures heading into the next phase of their development.
