Monaco yet to open Wissam Ben Yedder contract renewal talks

Wissam Ben Yedder’s (32) contract at AS Monaco expires at the end of next season, however, talks over a renewal are yet to get underway, according to L’Équipe.

Monaco captain Ben Yedder has 17 Ligue 1 goals this season – only Folarin Balogun, Jonathan David, Alexandre Lacazette and Kylian Mbappé have more. However, he isn’t an indisputable starter, and due to his low defensive work rate, he often finds himself the first to make way when the Principality club are looking to defend a lead.

Despite Ben Yedder’s consistent contribution to Monaco’s goalscoring efforts, his long-term future at the club is far from guaranteed. According to L’Équipe, there are still no discussions taking place over a contract renewal, despite the fact that the Frenchman’s current deal expires in the summer of 2024.

Whether or not manager Philippe Clement – who dreams of moving to the Premier League although not this summer – remains at Monaco has no bearing over Ben Yedder’s future. The player himself may have to make concessions, with the club reportedly unwilling to keep him on his current deal, which sees him earn €650,000 per month, according to L’Équipe.
