It was a sombre night for AS Monaco as they conceded their heaviest defeat in European competition at the hands of Real Madrid at the Bernabéu. It is a result – not in isolation – that turns the spotlight somewhat on the Principality club’s manager, Sébastien Pocognoli.
The defeat comes just days after the latest defeat in Ligue 1, this time at the hands of FC Lorient. It is Monaco’s seventh defeat in their last eight league games, the worst run in the club’s history. Speaking in a post-match press conference attended by Get French Football News, Pocognoli addressed his future at the Principality club.
“I am quite calm [about my future] because in my preparation for matches, I have always tried to bring a [positive] style. The results aren’t following, but I can honestly say that we are doing the maximum,” began the Monaco manager.
He added, “The results are difficult, but at some point, the results will come. I hope it will happen with me. I don’t decide my future, but I wouldn’t change anything about what I’ve done until now. If I had done things differently, the situation would be even more difficult.”
