Olivier Giroud could not hold his emotion while sharing his picture with the coveted Serie A trophy following their 3-0 victory over Sassuolo on the final matchday.
Taking a slight dig at Milan’s intercity rivals Inter, the Frenchman wrote on his Instagram,
“It’s coming home…right side of Milan.”
Before Sunday’s encounter, Giroud had not enjoyed a rich vein of form with his goalscoring attributes. But when the hour of utmost urgency arrived, he provided the Rossoneri with a brace, winning the game almost single-handedly on the last day of the campaign.
Signed for a reported transfer fee of €2million last summer, the former Chelsea striker appears to be an investment well-made by the Milan hierarchy. In the 2021/22 season, the French striker amassed 11 goals and four assists from 29 appearances in Serie A.
When Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ante Rebic were out for a significant part of the campaign, Giroud led the forward line with notable responsibilities. Although he was not at his best in front of the goal, the 35-year-old seemingly did enough to deny Inter their consecutive league title. It was his first piece of silverware since leaving England.
