Michael Carrick Ready to ‘Say Yes’ to Man Utd After New Twist

Michael Carrick is emerging as the leading candidate to become Manchester United’s new caretaker manager, GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

The former midfielder has reportedly held positive face-to-face talks with United over the weekend and has now leapfrogged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the race for the Old Trafford vacancy.

United are expected to appoint a new interim boss this week following Ruben Amorim’s sacking seven days ago, which saw Darren Fletcher replace the Portuguese tactician for two games.

Fletcher oversaw a 2-2 draw with Burnley in his first game in charge and a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, revealed that Carrick, described as ‘insanely talented’ by Middlesbrough star Lukas Engel, has emerged as the leading candidate to succeed Fletcher as interim United head coach:

“In the last 12 hours, we can confirm that Michael Carrick made important progress in talks with Manchester United.

“Because an interview, face-to-face, took place with Michael Carrick, as it took place also with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the two main candidates in the last five-six days to become the new Manchester United manager.

“And in the last 24 hours, Michael Carrick is really becoming the leading option for the Manchester United interim job.

“The understanding is that the meeting between Manchester United management and Michael Carrick was very, very positive.

“In terms of ideas, in terms of tactics, in terms of communication, in terms of intention. The feeling was very good during the meeting between Manchester United and Michael Carrick.”

Romano also revealed that United are expected to announce their new head coach this week, with Carrick ‘ready to say yes’, as the Red Devils aim to appoint someone who will be well-received at Old Trafford:

“They want someone who knows the club, who knows the atmosphere, and who can be well-received at Old Trafford. That has always been the mission.

“Now Carrick is ready to say yes to Manchester United, waiting for final communication from the club.

“But Man United are on it, because sources close to the club indicate that this week we will have an official announcement. Very soon, we will have an official announcement.”
