Michael Carrick’s position at Manchester United is in serious danger following Wednesday’s 4-1 defeat against Como in the Champions League.
According to BBC Sport, Carrick is expected to be in charge for Sunday’s game against Bournemouth.
However, the club have begun the process of identifying possible replacements for the 45-year-old.
The players have been given Thursday off, while United are yet to confirm arrangements for Friday’s news conference.
Carrick impressed during his interim spell to land a two-year deal at Old Trafford.
He was not backed in the transfer market this summer by the club’s hierarchy.
But Carrick has still massively underperformed this season, with the Red Devils winning just two of their 11 matches in all competitions.
Some figures at United are of the view that he should be given more time to turn things around. They believe that constantly changing managers in recent years has not worked for the club.
Eddie Howe, Antonio Conte, Julian Nagelsmann and Fabian Hurzeler have emerged as top contenders to replace Carrick at Old Trafford.
Howe has been out of work since leaving Newcastle United this summer after several key players were sold.
The English boss is said to be open to returning to management with Man United.
Conte and Nagelsmann are also available for hire, and both managers are keen on the job.
However, Hurzeler has made it clear he has no intention of leaving Brighton & Hove Albion.
