The future of Mats Hummels remains uncertain at Borussia Dortmund, according to Ruhr Nachrichten.
Hummels’ contract with BVB is due to run out this summer with no contract extension in place as of yet. Club sporting director Sebastian Kehl explained that a decision would be made by the end of April. Over the international break, there were further talks between the player and the club.
It’s reported that the 34-year-old is willing to sign a one-year extension with an annual salary of €5m. Despite this, BVB may also opt to upgrade the central defensive position in the summer.
Current fourth-choice centre-back, Soumaila Coulibaly (19), could possibly leave the club in the summer. Should Hummels also leave, BVB would only have Niklas Süle (27) and Nico Schlotterbeck (23) available. However, it would also give them a chance to bring in another new central defender.
