Mathys Tel is one of nine youngsters to receive the NXGN award, given to the best young players in the world.

Bayern Munich striker Mathys Tel has been named as one of nine winners in Goal’s 2023 NXGN list, which features the 50 most promising players in world football born on or after January 1, 2004.

Tel, 17, joined Munich from Rennes last summer after helping France to the U17 European Championship title. He has since made 21 appearances for Bayern, finding the net five times.

His debut goal came in a 5-0 DFB-Pokal win over Viktoria Köln in August, making him Bayern’s youngest ever goalscorer in a competitive match, aged 17 years and 126 days.

A global network of youth football experts contributed to the NXGN list, which was first compiled in 2016.

The top 50 youngsters were ranked in previous editions, with Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham named the winner in 2022.

Arda Güler (Fenerbahce), Mohamed-Ali Cho (Real Sociedad), Endrick (Palmeiras), Gavi (Barcelona), Alejandro Garnacho (Manchester United), Roméo Lavia (Southampton), Youssoufa Moukoko (Borussia Dortmund), Warren Zaïre-Emery (Paris Saint-Germain) were also named in the NXGN Nine.

Bayern also had a winner on the female side, as Franziska Kett was selected as one of the nine most promising female teenagers.
