Matheus Cunha Reveals What He Said After Man Utd Goal vs Arsenal

Matheus Cunha has revealed what he said to the camera amid fears of a possible ban after Manchester United’s dramatic 3-2 win over Arsenal on Sunday. Caretaker boss Michael Carrick wasn’t afraid to make attacking substitutions late at the Emirates Stadium rather than settle for a draw after Mikel Merino’s equaliser, and his shoot-on-sight philosophy paid off, earning the Red Devils back-to-back victories.

The Brazilian international, having replaced Bryan Mbeumo late on, expertly curled the ball into the bottom-right corner to hand the Premier League leaders their first home defeat since March 2025, sparking joyous celebrations among the travelling supporters. Sky Sports quickly apologised to viewers as the 26-year-old appeared to swear in his outburst. According to the FA’s rulebook, “offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures” can result in a player being shown a straight red card. While that wasn’t the case here, the governing body can step in after the match if the incident was caught on camera and broadcast to a wide audience, which could still lead to a two-match ban.

Needless to say, it remains up for debate whether he actually avoided using an expletive or not. Man United fans will certainly back his case, but rivals will be well aware of the possibility that he may simply have had good PR advice, prompting him to post that to avoid any potential ban.

He may not have hit the ground running as quickly as Mbeumo, but recent weeks have shown Cunha is beginning to find his rhythm at Man United, growing in confidence and influence with each outing, and Carrick now has a wealth of attacking options between now and the end of the season. While he has scored five goals and registered two assists in 20 Premier League appearances, three of those contributions have come in his last four games.

Meanwhile, all but one of his direct goal involvements have come since the start of December, underlining his clear upturn in form at a crucial stage of the campaign. With the Red Devils now fourth and in a Champions League qualification place, the Brazilian’s knack for popping up with important goals could prove vital as Carrick’s side look to hold off Chelsea and Liverpool in the race to stay there.
