Mateo Retegui reveals Serie A desire amid Inter Milan interest

Inter Milan have been handed a huge boost in the pursuit of Mateo Retegui, who has confirmed his intentions to leave Tigre this summer.

Retegui, currently on loan from Boca Juniors, has been enjoying a prolific loan spell with Tigre, which led to his maiden call-up from the Italian national team during the recent international break.

The 23-year-old also grabbed everyone’s attention by scoring in his first two games for the Azzurri against England and Malta in the Euro 2024 Qualifiers.

Ever since then, interest has grown for the young Italian centre-forward, with some of Europe’s top clubs adding him to their wishlist.

Of all the suitors, Inter Milan and Eintracht Frankfurt are understandably the frontrunners, having already made enquiries about Retegui.

The Nerazzurri have earmarked Retegui as the priority target for the summer to partner Lautaro Martinez in the attack for next season.

The Italian giants held talks with his father and agent, Carlos, during the international break and also said to have struck an agreement with Tigre that they would be given the first preference in the transfer race.

Amid the speculation, Retegui has expressed his desire to move to Serie A this summer.

“I will play in Europe from July. I would like to sign for a Serie A club. I’m already learning italian and english,” Retegui told Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Nicolo Schira).

“Inter’s interest? I don’t know anything, my father and Tigre are taking care of that.”

It might come as a huge setback for Frankfurt, who are pushing to sign him in the summer.

On the other hand, Inter believe their good relationship with Tigre – achieved during the loan transfer of Facundo Colidio – could help them strike a deal for Retegui.
